Computing

Intent

· Aim to develop essential skills through a modern, ambitious and relevant education in computing.

· Equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity that will enable them to become active participants in the digital world.

· Enable children to use the ever-changing technology to express themselves, as tools for learning and as a means to drive their generation forward into the future.

· Teach children to be respectful, responsible and confident users of technology, aware of measures that can be taken to keep themselves and others safe online.

· Communicate ideas well by utilising applications and devices throughout all areas of the curriculum.

Implementation

· Technology is used as a tool to support and enhance all areas of the curriculum.

· Skills progression document shows how the children can advance their knowledge and computing skills using a variety of computing applications in creative ways, developing key life skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving and resilience whilst ensuring coverage in line with the computing national curriculum.

· Recognise the importance of infrastructure to support a successful computing curriculum. Each year group, from Y3 to Y6, has access to a set of high-quality devices with each child having their own individual network profile and office365 account

· Children will develop their understanding of coding, beginning with Scratch development before coding actual software when using BBC microbits.

· Online safety is embedded in lessons where technology is used as well as being explicitly taught in PSHE lessons and on Safer Internet Day to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of being safe online.

· Parents are informed when issues relating to online safety arise and further information/support is provided if required.
